Berat, known as the “City of a Thousand Windows,” is one of Albania’s greatest treasures and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With a rental car from Tirana, you can reach it in under 2 hours — making it a perfect day trip or overnight getaway.
Distance and Route
Tirana to Berat: approximately 120 km, about 1 hour and 45 minutes. The route follows the Tirana–Elbasan–Berat highway, which is in excellent condition. The road is flat and straightforward — easy even for first-time drivers in Albania.
Which Car to Choose
For the Tirana–Berat road, any car from our fleet works perfectly. An economy car like the Hyundai i10 or Skoda Fabia is ideal for couples. For families or groups, the Fiat Tipo or VW Jetta offer plenty of space.

What to See in Berat
Berat Castle: A living fortress where people still reside. It contains Byzantine churches, mosques, and breathtaking panoramic views. Mangalem Quarter: The iconic Ottoman houses with rows of windows cascading down the hillside — this is the postcard view of Berat. Gorica Quarter: On the other side of the bridge, with excellent restaurants for lunch. Onufri Museum: Inside the castle walls, featuring stunning 16th–18th century religious icons.

Where to Park
There is free parking at the base of the old town, near the Gorica Bridge. Do not attempt to drive up to the castle — the streets are very narrow. Park below and walk up, or take a local taxi to the castle entrance.
Day Trips from Berat
Osumi Canyon is only 40 minutes away by car — a miniature “Grand Canyon” with rafting in spring. Uka Farm: A farm-to-table restaurant with local wines, on the road toward Vlora — highly recommended for a lunch stop.
